The reviews are in...

...and this two year old gives Ni Hao Kai-Lan two thumbs up.

For those wondering, Ni Hao Kai-Lan is a new cartoon just launched this week on Nick Jr. Kai-Lan is supposedly going to do for Mandarin what Dora and Diego did for Spanish. Lindy was begging for Kai-Lan on Friday morning after watching the debut on Thursday, so I think it was a hit. I would love to pick up a few Mandarin words here and there but honestly, I think they need subtitles so I can see the words when they say them because I wasn't able to distinguish anything and, unlike the romance languages, you can't even begin to derive what they are or mean or how they sound...Then again, the show isn't for me...Maybe Lindy will pick up things I don't...

Oh good, I am glad Lindy liked it. We recorded it but haven't watched it yet. We'll see what Kylee thinks. Right now her favorite is VeggieTales!

I am with you---I needed subtitles with spelling. I got a little bored (and so did Kate). Glad Lindy liked it though! She looks so cute in this photo.

Glad Lindy liked it. Hannah absolutely loves the show and already goes around counting to 3 in Chinese. :)

I have been taping them for Maggie so she can watch them when she gets home!

Beck has been waiting to see it. I can't say he sat and watched it, but he was excited to see it again this morning. He is still into his Max and Ruby phase. I think he loves the mischievious side of Max.

The Bower girls are a fan as well. Can't wait for the dolls to come out. So far not too much language. I've heard her count to three and say thank you. Trust me I didn't know any speniah before Dora. I thinkwe learn through osmosis with these shows sometimes :)

Maliah ... who never sits still long enough to watch anything except small doses of Elmo was captivated by Kai-Lan for quite a bit. Like you, I couldn't get they were saying ... I too needed a spelling with "pronunciation" below. I have it set it to DVR and hopefully we can get a few shows on tape.

We loved it too, even my nieces called us yesterday and said "Ni Hao!" So fun! We are dvr-ing it so we can watch it over and over and over and over (you get the picture) again! I agree with the subtitles, I just can't pick up the words at all!

Our two year old LOVES Kai Lan too! She has even been saying the Chinese words!
